This country bear was inspired from a signature tag I recieved from a group. I have ran across several hand painted figures that I really liked and wanted to make for myself. But with no luck finding the tutorials for them I decided to try replicating one of them. The bear above is the end result of the first one for me to do. This tutorial uses selections mainly because I don't have time to try writing a tutorial using vectors. I have used background tiles that were donated to the purpose of this tutorial, please leave them where they are. Thanks

The supplies you will need are as follows. My selections, bow, the tile for the dress and of course Paintshop Pro v.7 You can download the bear_tut.zip here  If I have left out duplicating layer and mirror anywhere be sure to let me know.

Step 1     Open a transparent canvas 400 x 400, add a new layer. Load in body, flood fill with 876D57,  contract by 1 then flood fill with B79F86. Got to select all, float then apply your cutout with these settings. Apply noise set to 3, uniform, deselect.

Step 2     Next add a new layer and load in head, and repeat the steps in step 1.You should have something like this.

Step 3     Add a new layer and load in arm, again repeat step 1 except change blur to 40. Move this layer below the head layer using your layer palatte. Then duplicate layer, mirror and position like the image below. You should have this now.

Step 4     Add a new layer load in outterear, repeat step 3 except when applying cutout change blur to 20. You may need to reposition your ears a bit

Step 5     Add a new layer load in innerear, repeat steps 3 except when applying cutout change blur to 20. Once again you may need to reposition the left ear a bit. You should now have something like this.

Step 6     Click on your background layer, Add a new layer load in legs and repeat step 1

Step 7     Click on your body layer, Add a new layer load in foot, repeat step 3 except when applying cutout change blur to 45. You may again need to reposition the left foot a bit. You should now have something like this.

Step 8     Now add a new layer, load heart, and using 688396 flood fill, contract by 1 flood fill with 91B5C5 apply blinds vertical and horizontal with these settings.

Now load in heartlines and flood fill with the dark blue, deselect. Duplicate layer and mirror, reposition to your liking.

Step 9  Now to give our girl a face. Click on head layer Add a new layer, load in cheeks flood fill with A95851, deselect add a new layer load in freckles, flood fill with black and deselect.

Step 10    Now for the nose, add a new layer, load in nose, flood fill with black and apply inner bevel using the following settings

Step 11     Add a new layer and load in outtereye, flood fill with white and deselect.

Step 12     On same layer load in inner eye, flood fill with black, apply inner bevel with these settings, deselect. Now duplicate layer, mirror, now rotate eye 16 to the left.

Step 13    Add a new layer load in eyebrows, flood fill with black and deselect.

Step 14    Add a new layer load in mouth, flood fill it with black, deselect.

Step 15     Now grab that bow that was in the zip and copy as a new layer on the bear, place it just between the ears.

Step 16     Click on body and add a new layer, load in dress, flood fill it with the dress tile included in the zip. Then select all, float and apply the cutout with the previous settings except change shadow color to 688396. Deselect.

Step 17    Now you will need to select your touch up icon set your tool to lighten rgb, and highlight each individual layer as shown in the example with the following settings. You will then repeat this process but change to the second settings for darken rgb. Hint  don't be affraid to play with the size setting and opalicity. In different areas you may need to adjust those two settings a tad for the look you want to achieve. You will have to run your mouse over the areas a couple times, using caution not to get the area too dark or too light.

Step 18     Final step add a new layer, make a circle using your selection tool or shapes tools, flood fill with your choice of a complimenting color apply an inner bevel you like, then duplicate layer and position them to look like buttons on her straps. Now you can merge all layers and save as a tub.
